PC power use

Available

What PCs left on overnight really cost

The portal counts how many hours each computer ran outside working hours and turns that into kilowatt‑hours. You see whom to ask to switch off and which machines can be woken remotely.

Features

What the module does

01

Hourly accounting

Every hour the portal collects device power history and keeps daily totals forever, though the remote management server itself keeps only 10 days.

02

Production calendar

Working and off hours account for public holidays and moved working days.

03

Estimates in kWh

Draw is estimated by hardware class: laptop, all‑in‑one, workstation. It's a model, not a meter reading.

04

Virtual machines aside

The portal recognises virtual machines and doesn't count them as desktops.

05

Wake readiness

A check of power and network card settings shows whether a PC will wake via Wake‑on‑LAN.

06

CSV export

For reports to management and facilities.

How it works

Where the numbers come from

  1. Agents on the computers

MeshCentral records when a computer is on, asleep or off.

  2. Hourly collection

The portal sums uptime by day and splits it into working and off hours.

  3. Energy estimate

Hours are multiplied by the typical draw of the device class.

Questions

Common questions

How accurate are the numbers?

Uptime hours are exact; power draw is estimated from the hardware class. That's enough for budgets and month‑to‑month comparison.

Do I need meters?

No, the data comes from remote management agents already on the computers.

Can a PC be excluded from waking?

Yes, each PC has a policy: never wake, always wake, or decide automatically.
